The Gothic period of architecture, mid 12th century through mid 16th century, was characterized by the use of the ribbed vault and the soaring pointed arch. The cross is a sacred symbol that represents the intersecting of heaven and earth; the spiritual and the material worlds. The four quadrants delineated by the arms of the cross can be seen as the four cardinal directions - north, south, east, and west, or the four alchemical elements of earth, air, fire, and water. A unique design by Qrys Bennett.
